The environmental sciences are those areas of applied science concerned with the relationship between human activities and the supporting environment. Environmental science research inherently interfaces with policy and regulation to conduct practical and necessary research for informed decision making.

Environmental sciences offerings at Florida Tech provide students the opportunity to gain expertise in field sampling and analysis while also learning about graphic information systems, remote sensing and other emerging technologies. The program also provides an opportunity for students to gain the practical knowledge necessary for fostering sustainable development. This includes renewable energy, environmental economics, resource management and environmental impact assessment.

The program’s coursework provides a solid foundation in the natural sciences (chemistry, physics and biology) with options to take additional courses in these areas. In addition, environmental science majors take specialized courses in meteorology, environmental chemistry and more. Theoretical concepts are reinforced by laboratory programs and multidisciplinary field studies.

The undergraduate environmental science major is designed to provide graduates with opportunities to pursue careers and advanced academic studies in the use, control and preservation of environmental resources and the enhancement of the quality of life. Environmental sciences majors have a strong background in biological, chemical and physical sciences, coupled with basic and applied environmental science fields, laboratory and coursework to help develop solutions to current and future environmental problems. Needs exist throughout the private sector and in local, state and federal agencies for the talents and expertise developed by graduates of this program.
