The Bachelor of Arts in Humanities is an interdisciplinary program of liberal studies with an emphasis on philosophy, literature, and history. As a study of the thoughts, actions and values of human beings, along with a comprehensive background in science, mathematics and computers, the humanities major has broad applicability. As a result of the ample allotment of electives, humanities majors may adapt the program to individual needs and interests. The humanities major prepares graduates for a wide variety of careers, including teaching, law, government service, the military and editing. Students wishing to pursue graduate study will be prepared to enter programs in their respective areas of concentration, such as philosophy, literature, or history.

Degree Requirements

Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts in Humanities require a minimum of 122 credit hours as outlined in the following curriculum.

Curriculum


Humanities Electives (12 credit hours)


At least 9 credit hours must be from 3000-level (or higher) HUM, PSY or technical courses relevant to humanities.

Electives (48 credit hours)


  • Foreign language (four courses in the same language) credit hours: 12
  • Free electives credit hours: 12
  • Liberal arts (LA) electives credit hours: 6
  • Mathematics credit hours: 6
  • Physical or life sciences credit hours: 6
  • Social science (SS) credit hours: 6
