The mission of the undergraduate multiplatform journalism program is to help students achieve their potential by nurturing their abilities in critical thinking, problem-solving, reporting and storytelling amid constantly evolving technology. The program provides a solid foundation in the theories, concepts, methods of inquiry, and skills and knowledge specific to professional journalism fields. In support of this mission, the School of Arts and Communication is committed to: 

  • Developing and promoting courses that provide an understanding of the concepts and theories surrounding visual, audio and written journalism; 
  • Providing students with the ability to convey material clearly and concisely through multiple media formats appropriate to multiple platforms of journalism;  and
  • Promoting student inquiry and critical thinking skills through journalistic reporting, long-form journalism projects and internships.

Degree Requirements

Candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Multiplatform Journalism require a total of 121 credit hours for graduation. On reaching the junior year, candidates must choose an area of concentration and include 21 credit hours of specialized coursework. The composition of the 121-credit program must correspond to the following distribution of required and elective courses.

Languages and Cultural Studies (12 credit hours)


  • Six credit hours of a foreign language (LNG)
  • Six credit hours of a foreign language (LNG) or cultural studies (HUM)
