The Master of Science in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity offers students with technical backgrounds the opportunity to pursue advanced studies in information assurance and cybersecurity. The program is designed for students with bachelor’s degrees in computer science, computer engineering or a related discipline and professionals seeking to improve their skills.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (or the international equivalent) with at least 3 semester credit hours of statistics and at least 3 semester credit hours of discrete mathematics. In addition, applicants should have completed at least 9 semester credit hours of computer programming coursework, including 3 semester credit hours of data structures. The program chair may grant provisional admission to students with the stipulation that deficiencies are satisfied by successfully completing coursework that provides background knowledge commensurate with the above admission requirements. 

Degree Requirements

The program requires 30 credit hours of required and approved elective courses, including 15 hours of required information assurance and cybersecurity courses and 15 credit hours of graduate-level elective courses. Elective courses include information assurance and cybersecurity (CYB) courses and approved computer science (CSE) or software engineering (SWE) courses. The selection of elective courses requires program chair approval. Thesis may be substituted for 6 elective credit hours. Students not completing a thesis must complete CYB 5998 Capstone Project in Information Assurance  that will count as 3 elective credits.

Choice of elective requires program chair approval. Electives can be selected from CYB, CSE or SWE courses and must include either CYB 5998 Capstone Project in Information Assurance  or CYB 5999 Thesis
